EP365 Interviews Brendan MacFarlane

Article and interview by Susan Kress

If there was ever a story to inspire our hopes and dreams, it would be Brendan MacFarlane’s.  All abuzz over a Gibson guitar at the vintage shop in Manhattan, Chelsea Guitars (Twitter @LittleGiantDan), a sensitive and unsuspecting lad offered up his singing voice to the shop owner and someone had the foresight to capture the moment on video.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TKF_MAypFk

In this day of social media, things took their course and as Brendan explained, people began to notice the young Scottish vocalist (then age 11) with the uncanny ability to sing blues/gospel with the heart and soul of one of the greats.  The Chelsea Guitar Shop video went viral.

As I searched, I found this touching story at http://www.brendanmacfarlane.co.uk/brendan.html :

Brendan’s first memories of music are what inspired him to sing. His granny Peeps was driving him home when he heard, ‘So Lonesome I Could Cry’ by Hank Williams, playing on the car stereo. Peeps noticed that Brendan looked sad and asked him what was wrong. He replied that he was sad for the lonesome man who was singing. When granny Peeps dropped Brendan off at home his father also noticed that he was sad. Brendan told him about the lonesome man in the song and that he wanted to sing it. His father phoned granny Peeps to bring the Hank Williams CD to the house. Brendan went to his room with the song and listened to it line by line. After learning each line he would run down the stairs and repeat it to his father until he had the whole song down to perfection.

Brendan recorded ‘So Lonesome I Could Cry’ in 2010 to play at granny Peep’s funeral.  She is dearly missed.

Now just about to turn 17 years old, Brendan MacFarlane is making serious gains in the Country Music scene of Nashville, TN as he just recently performed the beloved Hank Williams tune with Vince Gill, Dawn Sears, and The Time Jumpers (http://thetimejumpers.com/wired/196-2/) at 3rd & Lindsley Bar and Grill as seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2pPvE0TxsI .

Brendan MacFarlane is a break-through Country Artist ready for a rapid ascent up the charts.  His incredible journey has lead him to working hard with some of the best songwriters Nashville has to offer like Ronnie Bowman.  Brendan was kind enough to sing an unreleased song for us in our interview that he and Ronnie Bowman have written called “Hey Love”.

Brendan also has a Vlog that gives fans an exciting inside look at his work in the studio thus far with Kent Wells (http://www.kentwellsproductions.com/about-us.php), known for his work with Dolly Parton, at the helm of production.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqUO_f7oPms

It seems that all the elements are coming together to form a perfect storm of a Country chart-topping singer/songwriter who will have the ladies screaming and fainting in droves.  On August 21st, Brendan will be performing at a small venue in Nashville, Carter’s Vintage Guitars, at 7 p.m.  Seating is limited, but the information for attendance is on Brendan’s Facebook page!

His next performance, August 30th at Jones Beach Theater in New York opening for the Zac Brown Band!

He just had a new single release on August 11th called “Need You” which is available on iTunes, and, if that wasn’t enough for you, he is working towards releasing another album.

I can’t express enough what a kind and polite guy Brendan MacFarlane is!  We will all be looking to the near future to see what the next turn of events will be for the Country music loving young boy from Perth, Scotland in the viral video that made its way around the internet.  With his family, friends, & fans all supporting him, and Granny Peeps watching over him, it can’t be anything less than success!
